Reaching for a saucepan on a high shelf. Bending down to pick up a newspaper on the front porch. If you suffer from arthritis, back pain, or other chronic pain conditions, simple activities like these can set off another round of discomfort. Here’s one way to avoid – or at least lessen – daily pain: Rearrange items in your home to make them work for you. Place the items you need most at hip level so you don’t have to bend or overextend. (And ask someone else to clean the cat box.) And use assistive devices like reachers and grabbers to grasp and lift objects, and doorknob extenders to open doors without twisting.
